AMS meeting on Thursday, October 4th @ 6 P.M. & Other General Information

There will be an AMS meeting on Thursday, October 4th @ 6 P.M. We will go over forecast preparation as it has to do with the Wxchallenge. Mace Bentley will be giving a demonstration on how to forecast. Discussion about subgroup activities will likely occur as well. Have a good one!

Notes Regarding Various AMS Activities:

-Voting Ends Sunday @ Midnight For All Picture/Calendar Contests!

-Order Forms for Shirts/Calendar Can be filled out from Oct 1st-5th.
-Orders are due by October 5th.
-To Reserve a Calender prepay by October 5th.
-If you want to prepay or order, contact an AMS officer with details and inform on needed size of shirt.

-Order forms for all the other products sold will be applicable from October 8th to Nov 1st. For These Products, you must prepay.

NIU AMS Meeting Thursday @ 5:30 P.M. on September 13th

Come and meet your fellow AMS members! The AMS meeting this week will be Thursday, September 13th in DH 121 @ 5:30 P.M. If you have questions about AMS, don't be afraid to ask. Photo Calender Contest Rules/INFO:

One member upload up to 8 pictures. If you upload more then 8, some will be deleted to apply to contest rules. Choose Wisely & Have Fun! Please do not like a photo until voting days. At the end of voting, the top 12 pictures with the most votes will be in the calendar. The cover will be of Davis Hall and will be a separate contest from the other 12. Please list location and date.

-All are able to post pictures September 9th to September 16th

-Voting is from September 17th to September 23rd

AMS 2012-2013 is kicking off with a Pizza Party!

Ladies & Gentleman of the NIU AMS Group, Our 1st meeting will include a Pizza Party behind Davis Hall around the fountains. It will take place on September 6th @ 5:30 P.M. This will be an engaging and fun social that will include free pizza, minute to win-it games, and various other games that can be played on grass. Remember to have fun and mingle, meet new members, while celebrating our passion for weather!

Hello, everyone:   Just a reminder that the banquet will be held at Lions Park tomorrow afternoon (Thursday, 5/3) starting at 5:00. Lions Park is located about one-quarter mile east of Schnucks on Taylor Street. Potbelly sandwiches will be served.   We hope to see you there!   NIU-AMS

AMS Meeting and Elections 4/26

Hello, AMS team:

This Thursday, we are scheduled to go to Davenport, IA to visit the forecast office and observe a balloon launch. Following the visit to the forecast office, we will be eating dinner at the Olive Garden in downtown Davenport. Those who plan on attending this event need to meet at the Davis Hall entrance by 3:00 PM; we will depart NIU no later than 3:15 PM. Twelve of you have indicated that you will be attending this event, and six of you have indicated that you might attend. Unfortunately, only three people have volunteered to drive for this event, meaning there is the possibility that some people who want to attend will not be able to do so. If you really want to go and you need a ride, then we advise that you arrive at Davis Hall much before 3:00 PM to reserve a seat.

Also, this coming Thursday is the last day to submit your nomination to be an NIU-AMS officer. If you would like to run, please send us an e-mail at niuamsofficers@gmail.com. You are eligible be an officer as long as you will be enrolled in courses at NIU next fall and spring, and you have paid dues to the NIU-AMS. That is, we do not discriminate based on a student’s status as an undergraduate, graduate, post-baccalaureate, etc. As of now, only one person is running for president, one person is running for vice-president, and two people are running for secretary. We do not have any candidates for treasurer or webmaster.

The election for officer positions will be held on Thursday, April 26 in Davis Hall room 121 at 7:00 PM. On that day, NIU graduate and NWS-Romeoville forecaster Matt Friedlein will be presenting a talk on the NWS Doppler radar upgrade to dual-polarization radar. Additionally, Matt will be discussing ways for NIU meteorology students to enhance their career opportunities while in school. The election will be held immediately after his talk. Each candidate will have the opportunity to introduce him or herself and present a short speech prior to the election. The election results will be announced at the banquet, which is tentatively scheduled to be held on Thursday, May 3^rd (the day before reading day).
